Website redesign: signs your website is outdated and what a redesign fixes

By outdatedUpdated

Your website is the first thing most customers see, often before your shop, your crew or your work. If it looks old, loads slowly or never shows up when they search, they don’t call to tell you. They just go to the next business.

The short answer: a website redesign rebuilds how your site looks, loads, gets found and turns visitors into customers. You need one when your site looks older than your business, struggles on a phone, or sends people to your competitors instead of to you.

Is your website outdated? Six signs

1. Your brand looks cheaper than your work

People judge fast. Google researchers found that “in less than 50 milliseconds, users build an initial ‘gut feeling’ that helps them decide whether they’ll stay or leave” (Google Research).

That gut feeling turns into trust, or the lack of it. In a Stanford study of 2,684 people, “nearly half of all consumers (or 46.1%) in the study assessed the credibility of sites based in part on the appeal of the overall visual design of a site, including layout, typography, font size and color schemes” (Stanford Web Credibility study).

If your work is great and your site says otherwise, customers believe the site.

2. It breaks or crawls on a phone

Most of your customers are holding a phone. “About nine-in-ten (91%)” US adults own a smartphone (Pew Research Center).

Google looks at the phone version first too. In its own words: “Google uses the mobile version of a site’s content, crawled with the smartphone agent, for indexing and ranking” (Google Search Central).

Speed matters as much as layout. Google found that “53% of visits are abandoned if a mobile site takes more than three seconds to load” (Google, The Need for Mobile Speed).

Tiny text, buttons you have to zoom in to tap, a slow first screen: a site that only works on a desktop is outdated where it counts.

3. You rank low when people search for what you sell

Search for your main service the way a customer would. If your competitors fill the page and you’re nowhere, your site isn’t doing its main job. Older sites often have thin pages, missing titles and no page for each service, so Google has little to show.

4. Google and AI recommend your competitors first

More people now get their answer straight from Google’s AI summary or from tools like ChatGPT. The AI summary is the answer that pops up first, at the very top of Google. Pew Research Center tracked real Google searches. When that summary shows up, only 8 out of 100 searches end with a click on a regular link below it (15 out of 100 when there’s no summary). So if your business isn’t in that summary, at least 92 out of 100 searches never reach you (Pew Research Center).

So the answer itself is becoming the storefront. Those tools build their answers from pages they can read. If your site has no clear facts about what you do and why you’re good, the answer names someone else.

5. Visitors leave without contacting you

You get traffic, but the phone stays quiet. The next step is buried, the form is long, or the contact page goes nowhere. A good-looking site that doesn’t turn visitors into calls, bookings or orders is still an outdated website.

6. You can’t see what it brings in

Leads land in an inbox and get lost. Orders come through three different tools. You don’t know how many leads came from the site last month, or which page brings in money. Your website should be the front of a system, not a brochure.

What a website redesign fixes

A new color scheme is a refresh. A real redesign changes how the site is built and what it does for your business. Here is what ours include:

  • A custom design. Built around how your business sells, never from a template.
  • Built to rank. SEO and AI search optimization are built in, so Google and AI tools can understand what you do and who you serve.
  • Fast on every phone. Easy to tap and easy to read on the screen most of your customers use. Google says it highly recommends good Core Web Vitals (its speed and stability scores), and that this “aligns with what our core ranking systems seek to reward” (Google Search Central).
  • 100+ extra pages, free. Each one answers something your customers search for, so you show up for more than your name.
  • A clear path to contact you. Every page leads somewhere: a call, a booking, an order.
  • More Google reviews. A system that keeps new reviews coming in.
  • Add a custom CRM behind it. Sales, customers and orders in one dashboard, so nothing slips. More in our custom CRM guide.
  • Your own app. In the App Store and Google Play, so customers who come back keep your business on their phone. See Does my business need an app?

Every site we build is built to rank: fast, clear about what you do, and easy for Google and AI tools to read.

How our website redesign services work

  1. A free 15 minute call. It starts with the free online checkup, so we both see what your current site is costing you.
  2. A plan and a clear price. If we can help, you get both before anything starts.
  3. We rebuild it. New design, new words, the extra pages and the reviews system, all custom and done for you.
  4. Live in 7 days. The new site goes up, built to rank on Google and AI search from day one.

How long does a website redesign take?

Ours go live in 7 days. That goes for websites and apps.

We can move that fast because we’ve done this for years. We were established in 2017, we’ve served 2,000+ businesses, and we’ve made over $100 million for clients in a year.

How to choose website redesign services

Ask every company you’re comparing these six questions. Each one is something we do, and most others don’t.

  1. Is it custom, or a template with my logo on it? Ours is never a template. Every site is custom, built around how your business sells. Our custom website vs template guide compares the two.
  2. When exactly does it go live? Ask for a date. Our websites and apps go live in 7 days.
  3. Is SEO for Google and AI search done for me? We build it into every site, done for you.
  4. Will it show up for more than my name? Every site we build comes with 100+ extra pages, free, each one answering something your customers search for.
  5. What keeps new Google reviews coming? Every site we build has a reviews system built in.
  6. Can I track every lead it brings in? We build a custom CRM and dashboard behind your site, so every lead, order and customer lands in one place.

How much does a website redesign cost?

It depends on how much the site has to do. The things that move the price most:

  • How many pages and services. A single service, or a full menu of them.
  • What it has to handle. Quote requests, bookings, orders or payments.
  • What sits behind it. A CRM, client logins, or an app.
  • What comes over from the old site. Pages, words and photos worth keeping.

We don’t put one number on a page, because a five page site and a store with a CRM are different builds. On the call, if we can help, you get a plan and a clear price before anything starts.

Who builds your website redesign

We’re outdated (outdated.io). The name is the pitch: your site is outdated, and we fix that.
